SIBU BY-ELECTION

East Malaysia, the bastion of BN stronghold has been rattled. The delayed effect of the 2008 political tsunami had eventually traversed across the South China Sea and reached the shores of the mighty Rejang River on the 16th May 2010. The indefeasible safe seats of Sabah and Sarawak, BN’s self proclaimed Fixed Deposit (FD) is fast becoming a “Sinking Fund”. Despite the amount of money pumped in to keep SUPP afloat, the submersible feeling is omnipresent. Sibu town is after all built on peat soil and surrounded by swamps.

For the past 2 weeks, the wife, a Sibuian has been scouring through all the blog postings, comments, chat sites, face books, news portals, etc for every scrap of news related to the Sibu By-Electon. Yesterday she was glued to the internet following the minute by minute updates on the polling. When the official result was finally announced at 11.00p.m. there was a huge sigh of relief. I think she slept very soundly last night with a big smile on her face.
