Last Monday night, the Subang Jaya state assemblyperson organized a meet the people session for the residents of USJ3 & 4 at the park in front of our house. She called the session a town hall meeting. The other speaker for the night was Rajiv, the councilor for JKP Zone 3 which covers USJ 2 – USJ 15. Some 2-300 residents turned up for the meeting.
This is the 2nd time I heard Hannah Yeoh spoke. The first time was at the USJ 12 open area. It was some 2 years ago, just before the 2008 General Elections. She was very fresh and young then with hardly any experience, but you could still feel the sincerity in her voice and speech. Prior to the 2008 GE, an ambitious young person would probably joined BN rather than Pakatan. There was not much prospect with Pakatan before the political tsunami swept through Peninsula Malaysia. People who joined the opposition were those with an ideal.
Two years later, I see a different Hannah Yeoh. The victory in Subang Jaya was somewhat of a surprise. Having to jump straight into the murky depth of Malaysian volatile politics and to deal with hostile government bureaucracy only a daily basis, she has matured tremendously. She now spoke with lots of confidence and authority. Chairing the Q&A and dealing with the odd characters and old uncles & aunties was a piece of cake. That of course has to be backed up by working your butts off for the people and grasping with all the pressing issues on hand. Once you have done your homework, you can become a very efficient ADUN. Getting re-elected at the next GE is almost a foregone conclusion. I think she has the potential to become one of our Country national leaders in the near future.
